MEET THE INSTRUCTOR!

My name is Sarah Castrigano and I am an Ohio licensed art teacher. I am passionate about art education and enjoy facilitating and assisting in the creative process with students of all ages. Previously, I held a position teaching grades PreK to 8. This past year I decided to focus my efforts fully at The Treehouse, building a comprehensive Fine Art and STEAM curriculum to better serve our growing community of families.

Students can expect to complete fun, age appropriate projects using a variety of tools and materials in a friendly and supportive environment. Small groups of 8-12 allow for us to curate experiences to meet the needs of both returning and new students. While there are specific projects and materials for each lesson, students are encouraged to be curious and innovative. We will always do our best to help our students bring their unique ideas to fruition.

In addition to teaching, I am a practicing artist. I studied studio art with an emphasis in ceramics at Baldwin Wallace and have also done work in drawing, printmaking, painting and photography. I have several pieces on exhibit in BW’s Ritter Library lobby currently. My work has also been exhibited at Fawick Gallery and the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center.

As for my own creative practice, right now I am enjoying exploring the realm of fiber arts, learning to weave, stitch, macrame, and spin my own yarn from scraps, making primarily tapestries using simple frame looms. I really love incorporating found objects and reusing and recycling materials that may otherwise be discarded. I find a lot of inspiration spending time outdoors and learning about the environment and the flora and fauna we share it with. I have a background in horticultural science and when the weather allows, you’ll find me outside gardening, beekeeping, collecting, sketching and taking pictures to use as references for botanical studies.
